V*************   Death Ride Normandy  *************V

Death Ride Normandy   This game is going to cover the entire Normandy campaign from 6 June 1944 up to Cobra.  It will be as grand a game as Death Ride Kursk and have all the richness of that game series.  This series will be broken down into many smaller games.  The Base Game focuses on the operation at Pt du Hoc conducted by elements of the 2nd Ranger Battalion.  Along with this initial offering is Death Ride Normandy – Omaha Beach.  I am also working on the other beaches will all take the game from the invasion through the end of 10 June 1944.

I am currently considering how to organize all the games in this series.  I have created 2 versions of the base game DRN-Pt du Hoc.  The first is the one with the Master Rules in hard copy.  The second is the version without a hard copy of the Master Rules.  I will make a hard copy of the Master Rules available as a separate purchase for those who want to have one provided by Grognard Simulations.  The Master Rules will be set up similarly to the Death Ride Kursk model where there are a number of different levels of play.  The Master Rules DO NOT have the advanced rules included.  The DRN-Advanced Rules are include in the US and CW A-M-L Enhancements.  This will make the game easier to pickup for newcomers, and yet have the depth of play enjoyed by experienced players.  I will be putting the common charts and tables needed for the general game system in the Pt du Hoc game.  This will make the Pt du Hoc scenario playable and small for those wishing an introductory game into the series.  The first 2 games mentioned above are the initial offerings of the main amphibious packages.  These games will address the battle from 6 June through 10 June.  There will be additional expansions to the series for beyond 10 June.  These expanions are yet to be finalized.

Here is a sample of the map plan (the GREEN box represents the map area for Pt du Hoc) (This map plan is under continuous refinement):

This map plan is more complete as of Sep 2024!  Notice the change for DRN-All-the-Way. There could be more changes and additions depending on how far into the campaign I decide to go.

THESE GAMES REQUIRES DEATH RIDE NORMANDY – Pt du Hoc and OMAHA IN ORDER TO BE PLAYED
Next out of the gate will be Utah Beach and All the Way.  These games will depict the landings of the 4th ID and 101Airborne (Utah Beach), and the 82nd Airborne (All the Way).  DRN-Utah Beach will include a scenario for 6 June, and attack by the 101AB on Carentan, and the Defense of Carentan by the 101AB and a CC of 2AD.  I am unsure as yet whether I will be able to release both at the same time.  We’ll see.  DRN-All the Way is planned to have scenarios for the battles along the Merderet River and the overall VII Corps Daily scenarios starting around 7 June up to 10 June.

Death Ride Normandy – All-the-Way:
Box Cover for DRN-All-the-Way:

This game is going to expand on the progress made in the DRN-Utah Beach game in starting the battle for the Cotentin Peninsula. The US VII Corps, spearheaded by the 4ID, and joined by the 101AB and 82AB via parachute drop, begin the bloody process of freeing the area from the Germans on the morning of 6 June 1944. The 82AB drop into areas filled with German troops and must fight from the start for their very survival. They make a drop at St Mere Eglise, which becomes legendary, and to the west of the Merderet River, looking to hold on to bridgeheads for the other VII Corps troops coming to their aid. In response to the landings the Germans activate the 77ID, 243ID, 3FsJ, and 5Fsj Divisions across the Cotentin and into Brittany.

This is shaping up to be a big package. Possibly included will be:
10+ Counter Sheets
(5) 22×34 Maps and (2) 22×17 Maps
6 OBs
5x Daily and 2x Small Scenarios

Price is ~$232.50 Commitment plus FREE postage

Death Ride Normandy – Utah Beach:
Box Cover for DRN-Utah Beach:

This game is going to complete the beginning of the Normandy Campaign from the landing perspective for the period from 6 through 10 June. There are further games planned to continue the campaign through the end of July. Stay tuned! Here you get to see how nasty the US Airborne landings were and just how easy the beach landings were. Our Paratroop Scatter mechanism is one of the best you will ever encounter, and it’s based on platoons. That’s much closer to the actual sticks that landed and they are scattered to the four winds. You will get some landing in the ocean, the swamp, rivers, and villages/towns. It will be a monumental task to get the remaining paratroopers to reorganize and take the objectives that were set for them. The Germans also have a monumental task. They are beset by enemy troops reported everywhere. They must send units all over the peninsula to deal with them. This means they have a rough time focusing on getting them to focus on the Utah Beach bridgehead. That was the point.

The British 50th Infantry Division, landing to the west of the 3rd Canadian Infantry Division, made good gains on D-Day and looked like it would be able to advance on Bayeux on the 7th without problem.  After consolidating for the night the British moved out smartly in the morning to the south along the road toward Bayeux.  For the 2 days they would make some headway, and then be stopped cold for weeks by Panzer Lehr, possibly the best Panzer Division in the German Army.  The fight between these 2 divisions would become legendary during the campaign and filled with vicious combat.
