Death Ride Normandy: The Death Ride Normandy series is still in progress and is currently focused on Utah Beach. There is work being done on other areas of the Normandy Battles including Operation Epsom. That will likely be the next game to be offered up. I don’t plan to finish this beast until at the very least you can play the campaign, or major parts of the campaign, through to the breakout at Avranches. I do have some of my pesky play testers asking for battles during the fighting at Falaise.

Death Ride Salerno: The Avalanche beachhead as only GSI can do it.  Tactical combat based on 16th Panzer, 29th Panzer Grenadier, 26th Panzer, Herman Goring Panzer, and 15th Panzer Grenadier divisions.   Can the US 36th, 45th and British 46th and 56th Divisions stay ashore?

Death Ride – Tarawa: The Battle for Tarawa was one of the most cliff hanging battles of the war.  This game will provide a unique amphibious model that has the players move their troops from the transports to the beach using landing craft.  This will be a nail biter from the beginning.  Just getting ashore and staying there on the first day is a great game alone.

**********************************************************************************************************************

Death Ride – Arras: The Battle of Arras was a nasty surprise for the Germans, and Rommel.  7th Panzer Division was moving west quite nicely with the 25th Panzer Regiment out front.  Somehow the British counter-attack force went undetected until they appeared from the north west of Arras and beat a sharp dent into the German Infantry’s front.  They had been unprepared to meet such an attack and were caught off-guard.

Death Ride – Hafid Ridge:

A small introductory game set in the desert in 1941 where a British tank charge against a well defended hill, Hafid Ridge, came to a bloody and quick end.   Take a look at Marco Arnaudos’ video review.

A sample of the Hafid Ridge map:

Hafid Ridge is a standalone game that is small, plays fast (a few hours), and focuses on tactical level combat and maneuver during Operation Battleaxe prior to the Crusader operation that lifted the seige of Tobruk.

The rules are modeled around the Seven Battlefield Operating Systems which helps make them easier to understand.

This battle will provide a challenge to both players.  The British will find that they need to be very aggressive to push through the anti-tank defense.  The Germans have to simply hang on.  Either way it’s a cliff hanger.  Obstacle play is important and significant.

Game play is excellent for solitaire play and moves along very quickly.  The game is specifically designed to play in an evening or afternoon.

The Commonwealth forces drove straight into the anti-tank screen.  They were suckered into advancing into the anti-tank and anti-aircraft guns of the Germans behind the ridge and took heavy losses.  By the time they were making some headway the 5th Panzer Regiment was on the scene and forced the British 7th Armored Brigade to break contact and run back to the Egyptian border.

Death Ride – Halfaya Pass: Another small introductory game set in the desert in 1941 during Operation BattleAxe that has the British attempting to clear the Halfaya, or “Hellfire”, Pass.

A sample part of the DR – Halfaya Pass map:

Halfaya Pass is another small GSI offering. The game focuses on tactical level combat and maneuver during Operation Battleaxe prior to the Crusader operation that lifted the seige of Tobruk. This is a stand alone game and does not need any other GSI title to be played.  It is slightly larger than Hafid Ridge in terms of the number of units and can be played in a relatively short time.

The rules are modeled around the seven battlefield operating systems which make them easily understood and easy to learn.

This battle will provide a challenge to both players.  The British will find that they need to be very aggressive to push through the anti-tank defense.  The Germans have to simply hang on.  Either way it’s a cliff hanger.  The British Matilda’s are the queen of the battlefield, until they meet the 88’s.  Obstacle play is important and significant.

Game play is excellent for solitaire play and moves along very quickly.  The game is specifically designed to play in a day.

The Commonwealth forces were made up of 3 infantry battalions and a squadron and a half of Matilda tanks, heavy but under-gunned and under-powered.

All these games focus on company and platoon combat and combined arms use.  The time scale is either 1 or 2 hours per turn and each hex is 330 meters, depending on the game.

There are enhancements to certain models that provide more detail and yet are still simple to learn and play.  The rules are usually short, uncomplicated, and provide lots of detail and fun.  They are focused on Maintenance, Logistics, Air operations, and in some cases (Salerno) Amphibious.  The Amphibious model will be from troop ships to shore.
